5 Halloween Ideas for COVID19

5 Halloween Ideas for COVID19

History

The Halloween tradition originated with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, when people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off ghosts. In the eighth century, Pope Gregory III designated November 1 as a time to honor all saints. Soon, All Saints Day incorporated some of the traditions of Samhain. The evening before was known as All Hallows Eve, and later Halloween. Over time, Halloween evolved into a day of activities like trick-
or-treating, carving jack-o-lanterns, festive gatherings, donning costumes and eating treats.*

Normally, Halloween is all about the costumes and trick-or-treating. It's one of my favorite holidays because my birthday is Nov 1, and my parents always held a Halloween Birthday party for me.

COVID-19

Halloween will be different this year during COVID-19. According the the CDC, the focus is on outdoor events and smaller family events.

Some ideas are:

  1. Carve pumpkins with your family inside or outside
  2. Decorate your home inside and outside
  3. Have a Halloween scavenger hunt where children are given lists of Halloween-themed things to look for while they walk outdoors from house to house admiring Halloween decorations at a distance
  4. Have a virtual Halloween costume contest
  5. Shop small for Halloween

Here's a Halloween Gift Guide 2020 for you to shop handmade for Halloween with some of my online artisan friends.
