My mom, Florence, is celebrating Mother's Day in heaven with my dad, aunts, uncles, and grandparents. May their memories be a blessing. 

Before I got a full-time job, my gifts to my mom were cloth handkerchiefs with different patterns. I have them now, and I do use them. I've also purchased more at craft fairs. 

May is also Jewish American Heritage Month, proclaimed by George Bush in 2006. 

My mom was a typical Jewish American housewife. She did not work, and kept our home clean and cooked kosher foods. 

Here are my parents on their wedding day.

She taught me to be accepting of other people, no matter what their color or religion was. 

She liked sitting by Lake Michigan, so I've designed these table runners and matching linens in her memory. 

Mom taught me that I could do anything, be anything I wanted to be, as long as I put myself into it and did the work. She wanted me to be a teacher while I secretly wanted to be a dancer/actress. 

She encouraged me to sing, enrolled me in ballet and jazz dance classes, and I went to a local summer camp with my friends. She even became co-leader of my Girl Scout Troop.

I'm grateful for her unconditional love and support.

Celebrating Mother's Day with Solidarity for Israel

As Mother's Day approaches, it's time for us to only celebrate the incredible mothers in our lives but also to reflect on the Jewish American values we hold dear.

Happy Mother's Day in Heaven to my mom (the bride), my Aunt Lily (3rd from right), and to my Bubbie (2nd from right). 



This month, I find it fitting to ask you to support Israel and U.S. (Jewish) moms and others who strive to keep their families together. The news is filled with horrible anti-semitic events across America and there are still hostages being held in Israel. All I can do is pray and raise funds, with your help.



I appreciate those of you who have purchased in the past. For every Jewish design that you purchase through May 15, I will donate 10% of sales to Bring Them Home Now.



Join me in supporting Israel, a nation that symbolizes resilience, and strength. Let's stand up for peace, unity human decency, and against terrorism and our current government leaders..

We used to spend Mother's Day with my parents (z'l) and took them out for lunch or dinner. Often, we used to have dinner and see a play or show. My mom and I really liked that. And, I still do.

National BookMobile Day is April 26

National Bookmobile Day is celebrated on the Wednesday during National Library Week in April every year. This year, it's on April 26. 

Librarian Mary Titcomb launched the first bookmobile in the early 20th century in Washington County, Maryland. Titcomb wanted to start a transport system to get books to rural communities. Her bookmobile was a horse-drawn wooden carrier that contained boxes of books.

Happy Mother's Day in Heaven, Mom! 

This is my mom in Florida holding a coconut. 

She was my best friend. We jumped on buses to visit relatives (she didn't drive), and walked to go shopping in our neighborhood together. 

Mom got her hair done at the beauty shop once a week, and managed the household. On Fridays before Shabbat, she cooked and kept a Kosher home. 

Education and extra-curricular activities was important to her: I attended classes in ballet, tap dance, and modern jazz. 

She was to co-leader of our Girl Scout troop, and our boxer, Lucky was the mascot. 

My friends' favorite snacks were kept in the pantry for when they came over. My former boyfriends visited her even after we broke up. She loved talking to people. 

She wore costume jewelry mostly and I still cherish some of her brooches and the necklaces she bought for me.

Mom showed me unconditional love, and how to accept people just the way they are. She taught me that "if I didn't have anything nice to say, not to say anything at all." 

I still miss her terribly. But, sometimes I feel her presence and remember her scent while she held  me in her lap in the rocking chair that I still can't bear to part with.

Before the Civil War, Ann Reeves Jarvis of West Virginia helped start “Mothers’ Day Work Clubs” to teach local women how to properly care for their children.
