My mom was my first best friend. She encouraged me to sing, dance, have friends, and gave me unconditional love and support.

Accept people for who they are

I remember one summer, we wore matching shorts outfits. It's interesting to see other moms and daughters wearing similar outfits, like blue jean skirts.

Jewelry

Florence had an eye for matching jewelry with her clothes. She liked fashion jewelry, and wore clip-on earrings. She often bought me simple, elegant necklaces with a chain and a pearl, or a charm. After a dance recital, she gave me a charm bracelet with ballet shoes.

Many of my jewelry designs are based on a focal point with some embellishments.

Origins of Mother's Day

*The origins of Mother’s Day celebrated in the United States date back to the 19th century. Before the Civil War, Ann Reeves Jarvis of West Virginia helped start “Mothers’ Day Work Clubs” to teach local women how to properly care for their children. In 1868 Jarvis organized “Mothers’ Friendship Day,” at which mothers gathered with former Union and Confederate soldiers to promote reconciliation.

In 1914, President Woodrow Wilson signed a measure officially establishing the second Sunday in May as Mother’s Day.
