The Final Days of Passover

Final Days of Passover

Seventh Day: We read the Sea of Reeds story from the Torah, and the song of praise we sang afterward. All rise when the song is read.

We remember the seventh night, when the Sea of Reeds parted for us—and then crashed down to utterly destroy our Egyptian pursuers. Only then did we feel our chains fall away forever.

Yahrtzeit Candles
Some have the custom to light a 24-hour yahrtzeit candle for a deceased parent. (If the first day is Shabbat, make sure to light only after dark.) Light from a pre-existing flame.

Eight Day: Yizkor during the morning service.

On the final day of Passover, there is special focus on the final liberation, the one that’s yet to happen.
Haftorah Isaiah 10:32-12:16

This haftarah is a prophecy by Isaiah regarding the messianic time to come. He foretells of “a staff from the shoot of Jesse,” father of King David, upon whom the Divine spirit will rest.

Passover Miracles and Freedom

Passover is about miracles and freedom from slavery when Moses and G-d brought the Israelites out of Egypt.

While the preparation for Passover is intensive and a ton of work, it's always worthwhile to celebrate this holiday and act as if we all were freed from Mitzrayim.

I remember in my pre-teen years, my friend and I were always laughing about the 4 cups of wine.

The Four Cups of Wine

The 4 cups of wine represent the 4 stages of redemption (G-d told us):

I will:

1. bring you out (of Eqypt

2. free you (from slavery)

3. redeem you

4. take you as my own people and I will be your G-d

Happy Passover

Happy Passover!

I hope that this year, we all reflect on the freedoms we have and express our gratitude to HaShem.

Check out this You Tube video of Hazzan Shimon Smith and Rabbi David Ingbar from Romemu, my shul in New York, singing a new meaningful prayer Matir Asurim that can be sung on Pesach.
  • There's always something to clean, right? I was brought up to change linens and curtains, and I even moved around a few pictures to give our home a fresh feel.
  • One thing I don't do is make Passover meals in advance. Do you? Comment below to tell me about your tradition.

Freedom: Passover & Beyond

Freedom: Passover & Beyond

On Passover, we celebrate freedom: from slavery, from Egypt, from darkness. But it’s also important to think about what our freedom: to be, to do, to believe.

I'm grateful to have the freedom to design beautiful Jewish jewelry and women's kippot, and to have repeat customers who love my designs.
Grateful by Linda Blatchford

Rabbi Yitz Greenberg says: "Together, we come out of Egypt on the night of the Passover Seder. If we do it with the right intentions and the right mindset, our journeys to liberation can show us the beauty in a freedom with limits — the bounded freedom of relationship, of belief, and of service to something greater than ourselves."

Did you know?

1. Moses never says “Let My people go,” because that’s not what God asks him to say. Instead, God instructs Moses to tell Pharaoh: “The LORD, the God of the Hebrews, sent me to you to say, ‘Let My people go that they may worship Me in the wilderness.’” (Exodus 7:16).

2. The Passover seder asks us to tell the story of changes and accomplishments of the past and asks us to express gratitude for them. It asks us to acknowledge the difficulties of the present and share blessing and prayers for the future—while being aware of our own limitations.

I'm dreaming about Passover shopping, which you know means I'm a little stressed. How about you?

Reduce Stress for Passover

1. Go to a community seder

2. Many foods do not need a Kosher for Passover certification (food savings)

3. Simplify your Passover menu. You can eat the same meal for both nights of the Seder

4. The walls and windows do not have to be washed for Passover

I was brought up to do the entire Spring Cleaning routine before Passover. However, working full time and getting a little "wiser/older" means I have some limitations. I'm accepting them this year and am not going to worry about washing walls and windows. My rabbi told me since I'm not eating off the walls or window sills, it's OK.

You have the Freedom of Choice: What colors other than blue would you like for these Jewish wine charms?

I could design them in yellow, orange, blue, pink and purple acrylic beads. What's your preference?

Yellow? Orange? Blue? Pink? Purple

Would you wear these new gemstone stacking bracelet designs?

Blue is DUMORTIERITE gemstones. The price would be $90.

Dumortierite is a stone that teaches you to stand up for yourself.

It will help you to take control of your own life, and helps you to increase your level of patience.

Magenta (Fuschia) Price $40

You have the freedom to choose what designs help you to feel beautiful, and help you connect to your Divine self, your heritage, and to your community.

3 Jewelry Pieces You Need for Passover

3 Jewelry Pieces You Need for Passover

You're putting together your menus for Passover and are cleaning to slowly remove the Hametz from your home, right?

Here's a sample Passover Menu Planner I found online. The blank one gives a link to the download.

Source: Kosher.com

I'm way better at creating jewelry than food. My hubby is the "chef" in the family. He shops  and plans menus better than me (except for Passover).

Have you thought about what you're going to gift your Seder Hostess (or yourself)?

These 3 pieces, a charm bracelet, earrings, and a necklace go together like apples in the charoset.

Stretchy 7 Charm Bracelet

Act fast. The Passover Seder charms are popular this Spring, and I have a limited quantity on hand.

4 Things About Passover You Need to Know

4 Things About Passover You Need to Know

1. Passover is one of 3 pilgimage festivals when Hebrews traveled to Israel. The other 2 are: Shavuot & Sukkot

Why Matzah?

2. We left Egypt in a hurry and the bread didn't rise, so we commemorate the holiday by eating Matzah and re-telling the story at the Seder.

Gratitude

I am so grateful to be alive every day and have a chance to celebrate Passover with members of my community on Zoom.

This past year, I feel more connected to my Jewish heritage with the ability to visit various U.S. synagogues on Shabbat to listen to different melodies and hear sermons from many learned Rabbis.

Thanks for sharing this journey with me.

Passover 2021 on Zoom (again)

Passover on Zoom

Sadly, while it's normally a community and family holiday, this year many of us will be on Zoom. If G-d wills it, next year, we can be together again in person.

But, wherever you are, John and I wish you a Happy Passover

Happy Passover
