September Birthstone: Sapphire Blue 

The name is from the Greek word “sapphirus” meaning blue. 

The Bible likens the color sapphire to the blue of the sky. The prophet Ezekial wrote:”
Behold … above the heads of the cherubim there appeared over them as it were a sapphire stone, as the appearance of the likeness of a throne.” In Revelation, sapphire is named as one of the foundation stones of New Jerusalem. Sapphire is said to have received its protective power from Saturn and it was highly regarded by kings and emperors.

Virgo (The sign of the Virgin) relates to those born between August 2 - September 22. 

Sapphire symbolizes faith: blue represents the sky and loyalty and friendship.

The traditional color associated with the Sapphire is the deep blue color and was strongly favored as a popular gem in jewelry. Sapphires with colors other than blue are generally referred to as fancy sapphires. The distinctive blue of the sapphire is due to minute amounts of oxide of iron and titanium in the stone.

The symbolic meaning of the color blue has a Biblical meaning symbolizing heavenly grace.

To care for sapphires: put them in sea salt to recharge, and avoid exposure to sunlight.
